News and Views — 2005


On Sept. 10, 2005, Prof. Gary Mormino of the University of South Florida was the featured speaker at the West Pasco Historical Society. Prof. Mormino is the author of Land of Sunshine, State of Dreams: A Social History of Modern Florida.


On July 7, 2005, the West Pasco Historical Society hosted a group of students from the Marine Institute. The tour was organized and conducted by John Miernik, pictured on the left.


On June 4, 2005, New Port Richey City Manager J. Scott Miller (in the dark suit) performed the installation of officers of the West Pasco Historical Society. Right photo: Terry Kline was honored for his service to the West Pasco Historical Society and was made a lifetime member.

On April 9, 2005, Jim Schnur was the featured speaker at the West Pasco Historical Society. He talked about the history of Pinellas County and showed a 1929 home movie which showed various spots in Pinellas County. Mr. Schnur is President of the Pinellas County Historical Society, an author, and Librarian for Special Collections at the University of South Florida.


FASHION SHOW

Here are some scenes from the annual West Pasco Historical Society Fashion Show held on Feb. 11, 2005, at the Spartan Manor. This year's event was our most successful ever, with almost 240 persons attending. The theme this year was "Styles Through the Years." Photos are by Deborah Gammon.

"It wasn't about the bus: Martin Luther King and the American Dream" was the subject of a talk by Dell deChant at the West Pasco Historical Society today on Jan. 15, 2005. In the photo above, deChant is shown with and Hershel Lane, President of West Pasco Afro-American Club. The photo below shows a Black History display at the WPHS Museum.
