Second New Port Richey Historical Mural

Here are some photos of New Port Richey's second historical mural, "Dining and Dancing at the Hacienda Hotel in the 1920s." The mural was dedicated on June 10, 2006. It was painted by Chad Leininger, a 1995 Hernando High School graduate. He has also painted five murals in Brooksville.

The persons depicted in the mural, left to right, are: Roland Des Marais, Sam Allgood, Jo Allgood, Jeannine Humphrey, John Durney, Greta Garbo, J. B. Starkey, Tim Holladay, Marsha Starkey, Des Little, Babe Ruth, Tom Finn, Joe Lehman, Angela Lehman, Chad Leininger, Dee Dee Leininger, Cherry Kinnunen, Dr. Niles Kinnunen, Alma Scheuer, Alfred J. Scheuer, Robert Hugues, F. I. "Frank Grey.

The plaque lists the sponsors as: J. B. & Marsha Starkey, Joseph & Angela Lehman, Family of James E. Grey, Mike Ryan, Jeannine Humphrey, Family of Sam & Jo Allgood, Ideal Homes of Tampa Bay, Dr. Jeffrey & Luann Hameroff, Alfred & Alma Scheuer, Dr. Niles & Cherry Kinnunen, Tom Finn, Gateway Honda, Ann Durney, Roland Des Marais, Tim Holladay, and Keys Concrete. The facilitator is Greater New Port Richey Main Street.

To fund the mural, the faces were paid for. The only two faces not paid for were Greta Garbo and Babe Ruth. According to legend, Des Little won the Hacienda in a card game. The card game is depicted, and the deed to the hotel is on the table.

The first four photos are by Jeff Miller. The remaining five photos, taken at the dedication, are by David Prace.
